Specimen Collection
Draw blood in a serum gel tube. Spin down and send a mimimum of 1 mL serum refrigerated. Specimens that will not reach the laboratory within 48 hours must be frozen.
Unspun specimens must be transported at ambient temperature and arrive at the laboratory within 1 hour of collection.
Useful For
Evaluating patients suspected of having celiac disease, including patients with compatible clinical symptoms, patients with atypical symptoms, and individuals at increased risk (family history, previous diagnosis with associated disorder, positivity for HLA DQ2 and DQ8).
Screening test for dermatitis herpetiformis, in conjunction with endomysial antibody test.
Monitoring adherence to gluten-free diet in patients with dermatitis herpetiformis and celiac disease.
