Methodology

Gas Chromatography/Nitrogen Phosphorus Detection (GC-NPD).

Specimen Requirements

Draw specimen in a red-top (serum, no gel) tube.  Spin down and send 2 mL refrigerated.

 

Unspun specimens must be transported at ambient temperature and should arrive to the laboratory within one hour of draw.

Reference Range: 1.0-5.0 ug/mL

Critical Value:  50.0ug/mL

 

Pentobarbital concentrations as high as 50 ug/mL may be required to induce therapeutic coma.
