Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive as soon as possible after collection.
2 mL of amniotic fluid in a brown tube. (Specimen with visible blood, mucous, or meconium contamination is not acceptable and will be rejected. Specimens with a HCT result of >1% will be cancelled and the provider will be requested to order a PTG Test (Phosphatidyl Glycerol [PG]).
Reference Values
Immature: < 15,000/µL
Indeterminate: 15,000-50,000/µL
Mature: >50,000/µL
