Specimen Requirements

Both sample types must be submitted or the test will be rejected.

 

Whole Blood

Lavender-top (EDTA) and yellow-top (ACD A) or (ACD B) tubes filled to capacity.  Invert tubes 8 to 10 times immediately after collection.  To preserve cellular viability, collect specimen so it will arrive to Lab Corp within 48 hours of draw.  Do not collect on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  Specimen should be forwarded to the laboratory at room temperature, do not refrigerate or freeze.

 

Causes for Rejection

Specimens that are refrigerated, frozen, clotted, or hemolyzed will be rejected.

Intended Use

This test is used to monitor the CD57 lymphocyte subset in patients with chronic Lyme disease.
