Methodology
Chemiluminescence
This method detects antibodies to HIV 1 and 2 as well as p24 antigen. If the test is reactive, the test is referred for differentiation.
Specimen Requirements
Potassium EDTA plasma is the recommended sample type for this assay (due to reflexive testing requirements).
Draw blood in a Pink EDTA tube(s). Spin down within 24 hours of draw, and send 2 mL of plasma refrigerated. Separated samples may be stored refrigerated up to 14 days.
Unspun specimens must be transported at ambient temperature and arrive to the laboratory within one hour of draw.
