Test Code FLURSVPCR Influenza A, Influenza B, and Repiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Important Note

The Xpert® Xpress Flu/RSV Assay uses multiplex real-time, reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) for the qualitative detection and differentiation of Influenza A, Influenza B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) viral RNA in nasopharyngeal swab specimens. The Xpert® Xpress Flu/RSV Assay will be offered in addition to our Xpert® Xpress Flu Assay. This test may be performed on patients of all ages.

*Please note:  This test is only intended to differentiate between Influenza A, Influenza B, and RSV. This test is does not define Influenza A subtypes, Influenza B lineages, or RSV subgroups.

Additional Codes

  • Expanse Test Name: Influenza A/B and RSV PCR,NP
  • Medinet Ref Code:FLURSV
  • OV Code:IMO*FLURSVPCR

Performing Laboratory

St. Luke's Hospital

Methodology

Multiplex real-time, reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)

Specimen Requirements

Nasal Pharyngeal Swab Specimens and Nasal Swab Specimens can be collected following St. Luke’s standard procedures and placed into the Xpert® Viral Transport Medium or Copan UTM (1 or 3 mL tube with transport medium). Specimens should be transported at 2–8 °C.

Specimens can be stored at room temperature (15–30 °C) for up to 24 hours and refrigerated (2–8 °C) up to seven days until testing is performed on the GeneXpert.
