Test Classification and CPT Coding

86038-ANA

86200-Cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies

83516-Centromere Antibodies (if appropriate)

83516-Ribosome Antibodies (if appropriate)

86225-Double Stranded DNA antibodies (if appropriate)

86235-Extractable Nuclear Antigen Screen (if appropriate)

Specimen Collection

Draw blood in a serum gel tube.  Spin down and send a mimimum of 1 mL serum refrigerated.  Specimens that will not reach the laboratory within 48 hours must be frozen.

Unspun specimens must be transported at ambient temperature and arrive at the laboratory within 1 hour of collection.

Useful For

This test is designed to evaluate patients with signs and symptoms compatible with connective tissue diseases.  The testing algorithm is useful in the initial evaluation of patients and performs best in clinical situations in which the prevalence of disease is low.

Testing Algorithm

If antinuclear antibodies are > 20 U, then antibodies to double stranded DNA, extractable nuclear antigen screen, ribosome P, and centromere are performed at an additional charge.

If extractable nuclear antigen screen is positive, the sample will be sent to Mayo for differentiation at an additional charge.

Profile Information

The initial profile contains Antinculear Antibodies (ANA) and Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibody (CCP).

If  appropriate Centromere Antibodies, Ribosome P antibodies, Double Stranded DNA antibodies and Extractable Nuclear Antigen Antibody Screen will be added.
