Methodology
Enzymatic reaction of Fossati, Prencipe, and Berti.
Includes blood creatinine and urine creatinine.
Specimen Requirements
Plasma or serum and urine are required for this test. Blood should be drawn during 24-hour urine collection period.
Submit only 1 of the following blood specimens:
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) plasma gel tube(s).
Spin down and send 1 mL of lithium heparin plasma refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma on request
form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum
refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Unspun blood specimens must be transported at ambient temperature and arrive to the laboratory within one hour of draw.
Urine
10 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection. No preservative.
Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen
refrigerated. The entire 24-hour urine collection can also be
submitted.
Note: 1. 24-Hour volume is
required on request form for processing.
2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in
“Special Instructions.”
Reference Values
Males: 90-139 mL/minute
Females: 80-125 mL/minute
Note: Reference values decrease approximately 6.5 mL/minute per 1.73 of body surface for each decade after 40 years.
