Methodology

Co-Oximetry/Potentiometric/Amperometric

Includes pH, pCO2, pO2, HCO3, base excess, hemoglobin, Osaturation, carboxyhemoglobin, and methemoglobin.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of draw.

 

Draw arterial blood anaerobically in a heparinized blood gas syringe or a heparinized capillary tube, and send 1 mL of heparinized, arterial, whole blood. Expel air bubbles, remove needle from syringe and cap, and forward promptly. (Air bubble or clotted blood is not acceptable.)
